Stepping Up for Summer Learning

It’s great when the community comes together to support young scholars and that's what happened yesterday at the TaxSlayer Center.  Thirty community organizations gathered for Stepping Up for Summer Learning to celebrate with campers from Spring Forward, Boys and Girls Club, Martin Luther King Center, Skip-A-Long, It’s a Child’s World and Two Rivers YMCA camps.

Summer learning helps fill learning gaps and equips children with new skills when they head back to school. Children typically lose some academic skills during the summer, but the pandemic created an even greater need for summer learning.

The community partners who stepped up for our kids included Rock Island Parks and Recreation, Mercado on Fifth, University of Illinois Extension, IHMVCU, River Music Experience, Project Now Head Start, Quad City Botanical Center, City of Rock Island Public Works, Challenge to Change, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, STEAM On Wheels, Rock Island County 4-H, Quad City Steamwheelers, Illowa Council Boy Scouts of , America, River Music Experience, Bettendorf Family Museum, Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois, Nahant Marsh Education Center, The Winter Soldiers FIRST Tech Challenge Team, Quad City Rugby, Figge Art Museum, Rock Island Public Library,  East Moline Public Library and Ascentra Credit Union.

The event was organized by Spring Forward, with support from the John Deere Foundation
