Katie Colbrese, Director 
Katie Colbrese is entering her third year with SFLC after serving as the Game Operations Manager for the Quad City Flames hockey team. Ms. Colbrese, a hockey enthusiast, found that while working in the sports industry she was cultivating new projects centered on youth. Since, Ms. Colbrese has developed a highly structured tutoring program at SFLC, fostered relationships with school administration, and spearheaded a project to expand the SFLC-Milan campus and open a third campus at Frances Willard Elementary allowing SFLC to serve 120 youth in the Rock Island-Milan School District. As Director of SFLC, Katie is responsible for fundraising, staff management, community partnerships, and overseeing program development. 
 

Ms. Colbrese graduated from Western Illinois University in 2009 with a degree in Business Management. She completed a certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of Illinois-Chicago in Spring 2011.

Alannah Golden, Program Coordinator
Alannah Golden joins the SFLC staff for the 2011-2012 school year as the Program Coordinator. Ms. Golden is responsible for day-to-day operations of the SFLC tutoring and mentoring sessions. She will communicate regularly with teachers and administration to insure students' academic tutoring needs are being met. Golden is working on an innovative curriculum to keep children interested and focused during after-school activities.

Ms. Golden attends Augustana College and will graduate with a degree in Elementary Education in 2013. Ms. Golden is a Rock Island native with a passion for the community and working with children. 

Sophie Ali, Campus Leader

Sophie Ali will be serving as the SFLC Campus Leader for 2011-2012. Ms. Ali, entering her second year with SFLC, plays a pivotal role in the daily tutoring operations. Ms. Ali is responsible for the daily operations at the Good Shepherd campus including student pick-up, delivery of curriculum, parent involvement, and overseeing volunteer efforts. Sophie’s passion for children and their future is clear when observing her work at SFLC. She is dedicated and strives to provide a positive and nurturing learning environment for all youth.

Sophie, a reporter for the Augustana Observer and recipient of the Illinois College Paper Association Award is in her final year at Augustana College with a major in Multi-Media Journalism and Mass Communication and a minor in Spanish.


Steven Alexander, Program Aide

Steven Alexander is in his first year at SFLC as the Program Aide. As the Program Aide, Steven will be responsible for day-to-day operations including directly working with students, preparing lesson plans, and assisting in administrative production. He found his passion for education while working for Rock Island Park & Recreaction Summer Camp Program where he found enjoyment in working with kids on a daily basis.

Steven is currently finishing his associate's degree at Black Hawk College and plans to transfer to Western Illinois University - Quad City Campus to earn a degree in Elementary Education. After receiving his degree, Mr. Alexander hopes to teach algebra at the junior high level.

Nicole Krampien, Administrative Intern
Nicole Krampien is a senior at Augustana College majoring in Instrumental Music Education. During the school year Nicole keeps busy by playing her viola in the Augustana Symphony Orchestra as well as volunteering on the weekends for the Quad City Animal Welfare Center. During the past three summers Nicole has been an intern with the Golden Apple Teaching Foundation in Chicago, IL. There, Nicole was able to gain teaching experience in Chicago Public Schools as well as take classes from fellow Golden Apple Scholars. With her new title as Administrative Intern for SFLC, Nicole is looking forward to learning more about the inner workings of education, such as grant writing, fundraising, and programming. With all these experiences, Nicole is excited and hopeful for her future as an educator.
